I've been back in Cali for a few days now and I'm just now settling down to write a wrap-up. My trip was oh so bitter sweet back home (Iowa). We really hating saying goodbye to Grandpa, but again, he's in a better place; with Grandma.
The flight back was interesting. My in-laws us to Cedar Rapids to catch our flight and when we got there the screen said "on time" and when I checked in the guy never told me it was TWO HOURS DELAYED! I had to hear someone else talking about it and then my in-laws told me they made an annoucement about it. It's like geez people, let's have some better customer service. Obviously they can't control delays but they can still update their information so we know what to expect. Anyway, we finally got on the plane 2 hours later; the flight was more full this time so we sat next to some older man. He kept to himself for a while and then he asked me what my husband does because I'm assuming he saw Grayson's sweatshirt. I let him know he was a Marine and his response, "that's really cool!" He proceeded to tell me his father was a Marine in WWII and his brother was a Marine in Vietnam. Then he just decides to hand Grayson $20.00 for snacks on the flight. The guy wouldn't take the money back so I allowed Grayson to get snacks. Of course there was change buthe wouldn't take it. Then about another hour later he gave Grayson another 20 for snacks later, (this is only a 3 hour flight mind you). We tried several different times to give him back all the money, he just wouldn't have it. It was very obvious he was appreciative of Nathan's service and was trying to show his appreciation. It was a little weird and of course I had to explain to Grayson you shouldn't ever take things from strangers.
Some people decided that this was a little dangerous and that information shouldn't ever be given out. All I said was is my husband is a Marine. Pretty sure that's just like saying, "My husband is a pilot" or "My husband works at a bank". I never told him where we live, never said what his job was etc... I know what shouldn't be said to strangers. How is that any different than a bunch of Marines out in town in their Dress Blues during the ball... pretty obvious they're Marines. Anyway, nothing was said to put anyone in danger. Sometimes it bugs me when people try to get on their soap box but have no idea what they're talking about. ANYWAY it was a very nice gesture. It's appreciative, but still random and weird lol
Anyway, I'm now spending my time getting re-organized because we're down to the wire for homecoming. Tonight Grayson has a soccer game and then we're going to the fall festival with the gang. If I can just get through next week and Halloween I'll be good to go!
Miss you handsome.
PS Thanks cass and luke for helping me during our emergency. I'm going to miss yall when you're gone.
